Girls Aloud will reunite for a special occasion to support a Race For Life event in memory of their late bandmate Sarah Harding

Harding died in September 2021 at the age of 39 after a public battle with breast cancer

It has now been confirmed that Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle are joining forces with Cancer Research UK for a 5k charity race in her memory. The event will aim to raise money for vital breast cancer research that will help improve survival for people with cancer.

The 5k race will take place on Sunday July 24 at Race for Life in Hyde Park, London beginning at 11:30am. Everyone is welcome to take part in the non-competitive event, and participants can run, walk or jog the route.

Announcing the news, Cheryl told her followers in an Instagram video: ‘Around this time last year when Sarah was really sick, we were all desperately trying to find ways to help her, to comfort her, to do whatever she wanted, you feel so helpless in times like that.

‘One of the only things she really wanted was a gala dinner. So while that’s underway and we are doing that, we felt like we can be doing more.’

Kimberley wrote in her own Instagram post: ‘We would love for you all to join us and help us raise money in Sarah’s name. It’s an amazing opportunity to come together and celebrate her life and also make a huge contribution to the future outcomes of those affected by cancer. We hope you will sign up and share this moment with us.’

Cheryl, Nadine and Nicola will be taking part at Hyde Park but Kimberley will be taking part at home, with others who can’t be in London still encouraged to get involved at a time and location that is convenient to them.

Race for Life for Sarah is part of Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life event series, in partnership with Tesco. Since Race for Life began in 1994, over 10million people have taken part, raising over £920m for the charity’s life-saving work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of all types of cancer.
