This Morning presenter Ruth Langsford has hit back at a viewer who said that she’s ‘vile’ to Eamonn Holmes.

This week, Eamonn and Ruth returned to host This Morning during the Easter holidays, just days after Eamonn was treated in hospital for severe chronic pain.

On Friday’s edition of the programme, Ruth took the opportunity to address a comment made by a viewer yesterday that she took umbrage with.

The retaliation came after Ruth made a joke that Eamonn is ‘a lot portly’, stating: ‘Sorry, but I couldn’t resist that one.

She then added: ‘Oh by the way, the lady who sent me a message yesterday and said you’re vile to your husband – it’s banter. Just saying.’

Members of the This Morning crew could be heard bursting into laughter in the background.

Proving it’s all just light-hearted gags between them both, Eamonn quipped: ‘That was my mother.’

As Ruth threw her head back laughing, Eamonn then added: ‘My mum does think you’re vile to me.’

‘She doesn’t. Hello Mrs Holmes,’ Ruth replied, speaking to her mother-in-law through the camera.

Eamonn made the most of his chance to come at Ruth with his own wisecrack, saying later on the show that his wife has ‘horse teeth’.

‘Eamonn just told Ruth she has horse teeth on live television and if that’s not couple goals then I don’t know what is #ThisMorning,’ one viewer tweeted.

‘#ThisMorning Ruth “I’m not vile to my husband, it’s just banter” hahahaha,’ another remarked.

On today’s This Morning, Eamonn and Ruth welcomed Good Morning Britain’s Ben Shephard onto the programme, who became tearful as he spoke about how ‘remarkable’ it was that Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper has returned home after a year in hospital.

Ben said that he and his colleagues were ‘still reeling a little bit’ as Derek’s return home ‘all happened quickly’.

‘As Kate pointed out, this is the next page of a very big chapter and the journey is by no means over, but it’s such an important step for Derek to be at home,’ he said.

While Derek has returned home to his family, he still requires round-the-clock care.

His home with Kate has been adapted for his needs.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
