WWE superstar Big E has warned fans he’s still facing a long road to recovery after breaking his neck earlier this year.

The former world champion has provided a major update almost four months after suffering the horrific injury during a live match on SmackDown, and while he’ll have more scans in March 2023, he’s feeling ‘tremendous’.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: ‘Update! My C1 isn’t ossifying (forming bone) quite yet. The current plan is to get more scans at the one year mark & see how it’s progressing.

‘The great news is I feel tremendous & surgery is off the table.’

Big E’s latest update comes after he recently removed his neckbrace and threw it in the bin in a social media video posted last month.

Meanwhile, his fans and fellow wrestlers have been quick to send messages of support, including current IMPACT Wrestling producer Lance Storm.

He replied: ‘Be well and stay safe. Happy 4th of July’.

‘Love to hear that you’re feeling great,’ wrote one fan, while another said: ‘Your return is gonna be legendary’.

The New Day star was teaming with Kofi Kingston against Sheamus and Ridge Holland when a simple move from the latter went wrong as E landed on his head.

Fans watching instantly thought something was wrong, and Butch – who was at ringside for the terrifying moment – admitted in the moment, his focus was on the well being of people in the ring, rather than delivering a show for the fans.

Reflecting on being in the arena at the time, Butch exculsively told Metro.co.uk: ‘It’s horrible, right? I wasn’t in the match but I was right out there where he landed.

‘For me, obviously the first thing is just making sure he’s ok. The crowd is almost irrelevant in that moment and it’s a case of, “Is he okay to continue?”‘

The injury meant WWE had to change some plans heading into WrestleMania 38 just weeks later in Dallas, Texas, with a rumoured six-man tag match on the cards pitting Big E, Kofi and their partner Xavier Woods against Butch, Sheamus and Holland.

Explaining a superstar’s mindset in such a tough situation, Butch added: ‘All of that – whether it be the in-ring stuff, the WrestleMania plan, whatever it is, is all out of the window, no one cares. It’s just about making sure that he’s good.

‘Hopefully he has a fast recovery and he gets right back to where he started. And the one weird silver lining in it all, I know it sounds crazy to say, but just how much worse it could have been.

‘With the position of the injury, it could have been 10 times worse somehow. So, thank God it wasn’t and hopefully he gets back to a full recovery.’
