Loose Women has officially been pulled from broadcast on Thursday, following the news breaking of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s impending resignation.

Lorraine was pulled off the air for a segment as the news came in, but This Morning carried on with its planned musical forest festival broadcast, much to some viewers’ surprise.

Now ITV has confirmed that Loose Women has been cut in favour of further rolling news broadcasts.

An ITV spokesperson told Metro.co.uk: ‘Loose Women won’t be airing today and ITV News will follow This Morning.’

A tweet was then released on the show’s official Twitter account, which read: ‘Due to extended @ITVNews this lunchtime covering Boris Johnson’s resignation, @Loosewomen won’t be on air today. You can catch up on our previous shows on the ITV Hub.’

Mr Johnson faced almost 50 resignations in less than 24 hours, and a Number 10 source reported on Thursday morning that he had spoken to Tory 1922 Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady and agreed to stand down, with a new Tory leader set to be in place by the party conference in October.

JLS singer Aston Merrygold had been less than two minutes in to his interview with Lorraine Kelly earlier on ITV, before she cut the chat short, saying: ‘Now, I tell you what, we’ve got more on that news from Westminster.

‘We’re going to hand you over to ITV News with all of the breaking news about the imminent resignation of Boris Johnson.’

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.
