WWE is coming to Nashville on August 30 and it’s only right that Jeff Jarrett is set for a major SummerSlam role.

This week, SmackDown ended with a major announcement and wild brawl as Double JJ himself was revealed as the special guest referee when The Usos defend the Unified Tag Team Championships against the Street Profits.

Throughout the night, Paul Heyman tried to make things easier for Roman Reigns by trying to limit Theory’s potential impact on the Tribal Chief’s run at the top.

Backstage, Heyman reminded the youngest Mr. Money In The Bank in history that he was ‘responsible for the biggest break’ of his career when he briefly brought him to Raw back in 2020.

He suggested Theory should use his briefcase to set up a major match with Reigns ahead of time rather than waiting until after his Last Man Standing match at SummerSlam, but Theory refused to cooperate.

Later, before Madcap Moss battled Theory – more on that below – Heyman tried to sway the former into helping out The Bloodline by taking out Theory, but Moss refused to help the Special Counsel.

The main event saw Angelo Dawkins beat Jimmy Uso in an entertaining but brief bout – as Sami Zayn joined on commentary – with the loser’s shoulder being off the mat, notching up another mistake from a referee.

Adam Pearce came out to announce Jarrett as the special guest referee for SummerSlam much to Zayn’s dismay, before a wild brawl kicked off between the Street Profits and The Bloodline.

Liv Morgan beats Natalya, Gunther punishes Ludwig Kaiser and Maxxine Dupri is coming next week

SmackDown kicked off with an electric promo from Pat McAfee, hyping up the history he shares with Happy Corbin going back to their NFL days.

The commentator and occasional wrestler was on fire here, tearing into ‘Douchebag Corbin’ – and referencing the TV-14 reports bringing an end to the PG Era – before Corbin interrupted but refused to get in the ring.

Our first match of the night saw Liv Morgan beat Natayla in a good bout, with the SmackDown Women’s Champion showing her continue growth against a real veteran.

The New Day came out in full Viking Raiders cosplay complete with shields, axes, fake beards, and another comically bad accent from King Xavier Woods.

Erik and Ivar came out to attack Kofi Kingston and Woods, only for Jinder Mahal and Shanky to come out to get revenge for the recent beatdown, as Shanky and New Day danced and Mahal looked disgusted.

Backstage, Gunther revealed how much he hates failure in an interview with Kayla Braxton, and delivered another brutal chop to Ludwig Kaiser after his loss last week.

Lacey Evans didn’t compete as planned against Aliyah (Picture: WWE)

Lacey Evans was meant to face Aliyah but again the match didn’t happen, as she instead called out the fans for disrespecting her and her history in the Marines.

We also got another near repeat of a segment from last week as Sheamus again dropped out of a match against Drew McIntyre with the winning going to Clash At The Castle.

Instead, Ridge Holland stepped up but didn’t offer much competition as the Scottish Warrior won with the Claymore after teasing Sheamus with a White Noise.

Madcap Moss and Theory both feel like main eventers in waiting (Picture: WWE)

In the match of the night, Madcap Moss and Theory met in a very competitive, entertaining clash between two rising stars who will surely both become world champions one day.

It ended when Theory used his briefcase to belt Moss in the head, and he continued the beatdown as the latter was revealed as the winner via disqualification.

Theory shrugged off the loss and claimed he will become Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at SummerSlam, bringing out The Usos and Sami Zayn, which led him into a shot from Moss.

Elsewhere, next week will see Maximum Male Models unveil their swimwear collection alongside a debutant in Maxxine Dupri.

WWE SmackDown airs Friday night at 1am on BT Sport 1.
