Daisy Edgar-Jones has described the ‘life-changing’ fame that came with starring in Normal People.
In 2020, while the whole world was locked away in our homes and every day was exactly the same, Daisy and her co-star Paul Mescal were becoming A-list celebrities overnight.
The BBC TV adaption of Sally Rooney’s incredible novel saw the Irish and British actors thrust into the spotlight, with everyone from Dua Lipa to Kim Kardashian gushing over the show.
In normal times Daisy and Paul would have been strutting the red carpet, appearing on star-studded talk shows and rubbing shoulders with other celebrities.
But with the world the way it was, they too were trapped indoors – but now they were one of the most famous names in the industry.
In a new interview, Daisy has been reflecting on the speed and scale of the fame, and how ‘strange’ it was to go from ‘being just Daisy to being a full name, being Daisy Edgar-Jones.’

She told The Irish Times she didn’t have any ‘real-time experience’ of how famous she had become ‘because I was still just locked in my house watching Tiger King.’
Daisy, who played Marianne in the acclaimed series, described it as ‘a really slow sort of introduction’ to fame, and optimistically said it meant she was ‘able to really focus on what mattered.’
She added: ‘I didn’t have really much interaction or experience of it.
‘But now that the world has opened up a little and I’m more able to be around people a bit more now, I can really feel that.’

Daisy admitted she was in disbelief that it’s been two years since Normal People aired and ‘people still want to talk’ about it.
‘It’s really special because that show means everything to me. So to be able to meet people who loved it, and connected with it, is actually just lovely.’
Speaking about her co-star Paul, Daisy said he was ‘one of my best friends in the whole world and always will be,’ revealing the cast – who reunited at Glastonbury – ‘get so excited and giddy’ when they’re together.

Daisy is now starring in the film adaption of Delia Owens’ novel Where The Crawdads Sing, where she plays lonely outsider Kya who gets wrapped up in a complicated murder mystery.
Produced by Reese Witherspoon, the eagerly anticipated film boasts a soundtrack including a new song by none other than Taylor Swift.
She also starred alongside Andrew Garfield in a new series about the Latter Day Saint (LDS) moment.

The drama, titled Under the Banner of Heaven, is based on Jon Krakauer’s non-fiction bestseller of the same name.
It tells the story of a detective who finds his faith tested while investigating a murder that has deep ties to LDS fundamentalism.
