Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has weighed in on his daughter Simone’s WWE debut – and her new wrestling name.

The 20-year-old NXT star – who recently made history by becoming the company’s first ever fourth generation wrestler – made her debut as Ava Raine earlier this month.

The former world champion turned Hollywood megastar has addressed his daughter’s first appearance, and explained what factors go into choosing a new moniker.

Speaking to Kerry Washington on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he said: ‘It comes from all different areas. It’s probably a mix of what she wanted to do, what she wanted to be called. Ultimately, what the powers that be want her to be called as well.

‘She’s the first fourth generation of pro wrestler in WWE. I always like to say that Ava Raine could mean a lot of things, but in my mind, it means she’s going to lay the SmackDown on candy asses!’

Naturally, Dwayne has seen the footage of Ava’s big moment, he was proud of her promo work – particularly as he knows all too well the pressure of being out there.

Footage of Ava Raine’s debut promo at a #WWENXT live event has finally made its way online. She sounded great! Very confident!

He added: ‘She made her debut in WWE, their smaller federation, NXT. She did so good. She went out there on the microphone. You have to be poised when you go out there. She has a cool wrestling name, Ava Raine.’

In a video shared by fans on Twitter, she addressed the crowd and said: ‘Ava Raine is the embodiment of NXT 2.0. I am something fresh, I am something new and I am something that all of you have been craving.’

‘I don’t need to come out here and say that I’m a rich girl, or come out here with a pillow,’ she mocked. ‘Or come out here and ride around the ring on a skateboard! To all of you, I am completely a mystery.’

She added: ‘They will all fall down, all of them, except me! I am Ava Raine, and I am the Final Girl!’

Meanwhile, The Rock’s comments come after he recently gave fans a very positive sign amid speculation he could come back for one more match against his cousin Roman Reigns at next year’s WrestleMania.

‘Of course,’ he said. #Yeah, always open to that. For sure.’

WWE NXT 2.0 airs Tuesday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
