It seems all those romantic adventures are getting to the cast of Sanditon.

The period drama, adapted from an unfinished Jane Austen novel of the same name, follows heroine Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) as she explores marriage proposals from a host of dashing suitors.

But all that toing and froing is getting to Rose, who has revealed that filming certain scenes for season 2 made her want to throw up.

While they may look glamorous, carriages clearly aren’t all they’re cracked up to be and are to blame for the 28-year-old’s nausea.

Speaking to the Metro.co.uk, Rose, who is from Ealing, London, said: ‘I was only in a carriage briefly but it was a legit carriage – and those wheels!

‘There’s not much room for bounce. I got very nauseous. So I don’t know how they lasted for those long journeys because I couldn’t handle it. Talk about carsick, I was carriagesick.’

It’s safe to say Rose isn’t the biggest fan of carriages (Picture: Twitter)

And it wasn’t just Rose who had some difficulties on set, with her costar Maxim Ays, who plays Captain William Carter, revealing the costumes could be tricky to deal with.

The 26-year-old explained: ‘The whole kind of army regalia was very fun at first, but then quickly became a little bit tedious, especially in the sweltering heat with about 17 layers on. But I’m not complaining.’

Witten by Bafta-winning screenwriter Andrew Davies, Sanditon aired for one season before ITV axed it.

However, despite the divisive ending, which led to some fans proclaiming Austen ‘would be turning in her grave’ over the finale, many viewers were desperate to see more.

Fortunately, PBS swooped in and renewed the show for seasons two and three with co-producer BritBox in May 2021.

Several of the drama’s original cast did not return for the later seasons, including Theo James who said that he felt as though his character Sidney’s journey ‘concluded as I wanted it to.’

Season two of Sanditon is available to stream on BritBox in the UK.
