BBC News At 10 anchor Huw Edwards is the latest star to throw his hat in the ring for the presenting gig for the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, which will be hosted in the UK.

Despite the Ukrainian entry Kalush Orchestra triumphing at this year’s competition in Turin, Italy, organisers decided the event could not be held in the war-torn country following the Russian invasion.

The honour has instead been awarded to the UK as we were runners-up with contestant Sam Ryder.

The BBC and the European Broadcasting Union will work together on the iconic show, including deciding where in the UK Eurovision will be staged.

But the real question on everyone’s lips is who will they pick to present the long-running contest?

Huw has hinted he would love the top job in several posts on Twitter.

This is so obviously right 👇🏻 and your presenter is standing by 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 ❤️ @Eurovision @BBCOne @BBCCymruWales #Eurovision2023 #Eurovision 🌟 https://t.co/q39PmIbSdf

Responding to a tweet that declared: ‘the host city has to be Cardiff’, Huw wrote: ‘This is so obviously right and your presenter is standing by @Eurovision @BBCOne @BBCCymruWales #Eurovision2023 #Eurovision.’

Huw later tweeted: ‘Huwrovision 2023 🇺🇦 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 @Eurovision @BBCCymruWales #Eurovision2023.’

Fans were delighted by the suggestion, with one of Huw’s followers simply saying: ‘Perffaith.’

Another wrote: ‘Can we just start Huwrovision anyway?’

A fan joked: ‘You’d have to do that iconic thing with your arm on the desk, otherwise “nul points.”‘

One Eurovision lover was thrilled, adding: ‘Ngl, this would be awesome.’

It would be a change of direction for the 60-year-old broadcaster, who has been reading out the evening headlines on the BBC for 20 years, having begun his stint in the slot in 2003.

Huw joins the likes of Nigella Lawson, who has also taken to Twitter in recent weeks to share her dreams of hosting the Eurovision.

The 62-year-old teased she could be the next Katie Boyle, a TV star and actress who presented the Eurovision Song Contest on four occasions, in 1960, 1963, 1968, and 1974.

However, the favourite is Graham Norton, who has been providing his spot-on commentary each year since taking over from Terry Wogan back in 2009.

The presenter is known for his innuendo-laden remarks, as well as for bringing the perfect amount of sass to his narration.

This will be the ninth time the UK has welcomed the contest, having previously hosted in London, Edinburgh, Brighton, Harrogate, and Birmingham.

Cities hoping to host the Eurovision next year include Sheffield, Manchester, and Cardiff, with a location set to be chosen in the coming weeks.
