For those truly baffled as to why Pete Davidson’s BDE was such a hot topic, you may want to look away – there is a new questionable boyfriend of the internet on the block.

You see, Jeremy Allen White’s character Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto in new series The Bear has got people well and truly fanning themselves with a thirst not seen for a fictional figure for some time.

For those not across The Bear, the new Hulu dramedy series follows 31-year-old White’s five-star chef, Carmy who, following the death of his brother, inherits the family’s sandwich shop.

But people care not for the sarnies – they want to take a bite out of Carmy.

Turns out his tortured character, who is dealing with a whole lot of grief and questionable tattoos, has got punters hot under the collar.

Earlier this month social media became a hotbed of Carmy-clutching cronies following a brilliant description from Sarah York, who described him as the ‘Sexually Competent Dirtbag Line Cook’, and thus a genre of thirst was born.

I haven’t watched The Bear yet but I’m thrilled that people who’ve never worked in a restaurant are being introduced to an exclusive strain of Sexually Competent Dirtbag™️ that only exists in a restaurant kitchen pic.twitter.com/ZnZJOdM0l8

York wrote: ‘If you’ve ever waited in vain for a text back from a man with no bed frame in his apartment, you’re already pretty familiar with this type.

‘Imagine no-bed-frame man, but he only drinks from plastic quart containers and cooks a spaghetti carbonara that will make you write in your journal for the first time since high school. Has he showered today? No. Are you going to be the one to change him and make him want to settle down? Also no!

‘What if Pete Davidson drank even less water? That’s what Sexually Competent Dirtbag Line Cook looks like. He’s usually covered in tattoos – look for the signature dual knives on his forearms. He perpetually smells like a campfire, partly because he works over an open flame, but mostly because he spends his nights burning through a pack of American Spirits out on his favourite dive bar’s smoking patio.

From now on i will be calling any and all sexual partners “chef”. Jeremy Allen White in “the bear”, this is your impact.

Carmy in The Bear has wet dog vibes and definitely needs therapy and he’s so hot for that

This Bear guy aka Carmy on the @hulu show @TheBearFX is hot af. In real life he’d be a contender for future ex-boyfriend status.

‘He will send the exact same text in response to your artful nude as he did when you told him your childhood cat died: ‘whoa lol’.’

Alex Zaragoza chimed in: ‘Im too scared to watch The Bear because I’m actively in therapy to stop falling in love with men who look like this.’

In fact, apparently just the very phrase ‘yes, chef’ has been declared ‘extremely sexual’ by viewers. Who knew.

Be that as it may, in response to the utter mayhem punters have had to Carmy doing little more than cooking and looking broody, White is quite baffled by the attention on his character.

When asked if he expected people to thirst over his character, he told W Magazine: ‘Truly, no. The show itself is so void of any romance, certainly any sexuality, so it wasn’t on my mind at all during shooting.

‘Is struggling attractive? I’m surprised, but I hope it means that people understand Carmy as intrinsically good. He’s behaved poorly at times, but I do think he’s trying. And people trying…that’s never not cool.’

The Bear is currently on Hulu in the US, no release date has been announced for the UK as of yet.
