Big Brother voiceover Marcus Bentley has confirmed he’s not actually been booked in for the highly-anticipated reboot.

Bentley, 54, is the one staple of Big Brother narrating every single series, civilian and celebrity, on both Channel 4 and Channel 5 until it was axed in 2018.

Essentially, Big Brother is just not Big Brother without the Bentley.

With the devoted fandom desperate for the ITV2 reboot to return to its roots and come back pretty much the same as its peak in the noughties, surely he has to be the voice again, right?

Well, nothing is set is stone.

‘I’m not confirmed. It’s very early days. I think it sounds like I am,’ he told RadioTimes.com.

‘I’m getting calls from [producers] and they’re going to keep me updated. But they haven’t chosen anything.’

He did, however, share a snap of his old work pass and has previously told Metro.co.uk how much he would love to return.

‘I’d love to [go back],’ he told Metro.co.uk. ‘I’d love to, because it’s in my blood. I mean, throughout the Channel 4/Channel 5 years I had a very similar set of producers, some of the producers worked right the way through it.

‘Everybody was so lovely and of course, there’s always been a buzz about it and it sort of fills my year up.’

Marcus continued: ‘I miss it dreadfully but I would love to. I’m waiting for one day for that phone to ring to tell me “Marcus, would you do it? For real?” Put that contract right in front of me!’

Confirming the return of Big Brother, ITV released a statement which read: ‘The action will all play out under the roof of the iconic Big Brother house, which will be given its own contemporary new look ready for this reimagining of the show.

‘Clever tasks, nail-biting nominations and live evictions will be back, with the public once again playing a crucial role, voting throughout the series and ultimately determining the winner, who will walk away with a life changing cash prize.’

As it stands there is still no confirmation of a host. Obviously everyone wants Rylan Clark but Mo Gilligan is currently the hot favourite.

Big Brother returns to ITV2 in 2023.
