A man who was allegedly among those who stole Lady Gaga’s dogs has been recaptured months after he was mistakenly released from jail in Los Angeles.

James Howard Jackson, 19, was one of five people arrested after Lady Gaga’s dogwalker Ryan Fischer was shot in the chest and her French bulldogs were stolen in February 2021.

Jackson was accidentally released in April due to a ‘clerical error’ with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Major Crime Team asking for the US Marshals help to apprehend Jackson last month.

They had offered a $5,000 (£4,132) reward for information leading to his arrest, but warned he ‘should be considered armed and dangerous’.

Jackson has since been recaptured and while the sheriff’s department did not share details on how he was located, it stated that he was ‘apprehended without incident.’

Following Jackson’s accidental release, Fischer, who was seriously injured in the dognapping, appealed for him to turn himself in.

He wrote on Instagram at the time: ‘While I’m deeply concerned at the events that led to his release, I’m confident law enforcement will rectify the error.

‘I ask for Mr. Jackson to turn himself over to the authorities, so resolution to the crime committed against me runs its course, whatever the courts determine that outcome to be.

‘Thank you to everyone who is supporting me during this time.’

Jackson’s charges include attempted murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, assault with a

semiautomatic firearm and a felon carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle and he is accused of shooting Fischer with a .40-calibre handgun before he and two suspects allegedly fleeing the scene in a car with two of Gaga’s three dogs.

The animals were returned two days later after the singer put up a huge reward, though it is not known if the money was released.

The woman who returned the dogs and claimed to have found them was also among those charged.

Fischer had suffered a collapsed lung after being shot during the robbery, and said medics were initially unsure whether he’d survive.

He previously said: ‘The people in the ER, who I had seen that night, told me they didn’t think I was gonna survive that night.

‘[Gaga] helped me so much. She’s been a friend for me and after I was attacked, my family was flown out and I had trauma therapists flown to me and I stayed at her house for months while friends comforted me and security was around me.’
