Netflix viewers are losing their minds over the newest true crime documentary which has hit our screens.

I Just Killed my Dad follows the true story of Anthony Templet, a teenager who shot his dad in 2019.

Straight after shooting his dad in the head, he rung 911 and stated: ‘He tried to attack me. Then, we got into a fist fight. Then, I ran in his room, closed the door, and got a gun. As I unlocked the door, he tried to [inaudible] and then I shot him. I just killed my dad. I shot him three times.’

The three-part series, from Girl in the Picture’s Skye Borgman, shows the investigation that followed, after there were no signs that the shooting had been in self-defence.

But, Templet’s own lawyers (and his stepmother) fought for him to avoid prison and argued that his father had abused him.

The series, which has a shocking twist at the end, has left viewers entirely stunned.

It turns out, the story isn’t just about Anthony killing his dad… but turned into a darker, more complex story of kidnapping.

And viewers are losing their minds over it.

One viewer wrote: ‘Netflix be having all the crazy stories. I Just Killed My Dad is sad af,’ while another penned: ‘Barely on episode 2 of I Just Killed My Dad and my mind is completely blown.’

Someone else branded the docuseries ‘insane’ while others called it ‘wild’.

Templet was granted a plea bargain instead of a manslaughter charge, though he was originally charged with second-degree murder.

In March 2021, he pleaded no contest to negligent homicide, and sentenced to five years of supervised probation with credit for the time he had already served and now, aged 20, he is no longer in prison.

At the end of the series, Templet tells the filmmakers: ‘I just want to be normal. Just want to live normally and be happy and just move on.’

I Just Killed my Dad is available to watch on Netflix now.
