I’m a size 8 and my friend is a 16 – we wore the same supermarket jeans to see how they look, here are our top buys

HALF of women find buying jeans the most difficult clothes purchase of all, according to a new survey.

Supermarkets have a superb offering this season but, Jess Evans asks, do the different styles suit all shapes? Pals Sophie Mathews, 42, size 16, and Debbie Le, 45, size 8, try them on and rate them out of 5.

HERO HIGH-RISE

Fab Daily News UKHigh-rise wide-leg, £29.50, M&S Collection at Marks & Spencer[/caption]

SOPHIE, FROM ESSEX: I absolutely love the stretch and comfort in these jeans, they feel great. However, they come up very high-waisted on Debbie and look fab.

But on my curvier figure, these sit more mid-waist, which isn’t the most flattering and doesn’t make me feel as confident as I’d like too in my jeans.

The dark indigo colour makes these look more expensive than they are, though, at less than £30.

JEAN-IUS
We’re sizes 4-24 and all tried on the same pair of jeans from Pretty Little Thing

JUST RIGHT
I’m tall – I found the PERFECT jeans for girls who struggle to find a long pair

DEBBIE, FROM KENT: I am all over these. These are right up my street. I think the high waist really accentuates my figure nicely and they are fitted on my hips, which gives me a great shape.

This style balances out my proportions and a high waist is my go-to in jeans – as after having children they are more forgiving.

The fabric in these feels really luxe and almost designer-like. I love them.

SUPER-SKINNIES

Fab Daily News UKShaper skinny jeans, £18, Nutmeg at Morrisons[/caption]

SOPHIE: On a curvy figure I found these extremely flattering. I think they totally shape and lift my body, which is a shock as super-skinny jeans are definitely not something I thought I would ever go for, and haven’t tried before.

But these are really fantastic. I love the colour and the stretch and how they make me look. So I am very pleasantly surprised.

RATING: 5

DEBBIE: I like the fit of these but they wouldn’t be my go-to style of jeans. They really remind me of jeggings I used to wear in my twenties because of the stretch.

They are amazingly comfortable, which is surprising as they fit so tight. However, I feel the quality isn’t as high as other styles we have chosen.

On a positive note, I love the colour and the shape they give me.

RATING: 2

BOOT CUT BUM LIFTER

Fab Daily News UKBootcut wonderfit, £20, George at Asda[/caption]

SOPHIE: Absolutely full marks for these jeans. They are so sculpting on my figure and I feel really confident wearing them.

I actually love everything about them. The length on my leg works perfectly and also the fit around the leg and waist.

They are smoothing across my hips and bum as well. Fantastic.

RATING: 5

DEBBIE: I knew these would look as great on the body as they do on the hanger. I also love everything about them – they are my favourite so far. They elongate my legs and make me appear taller than I am.

I also really like that these look so good with heels. They give me so much shape, especially on the bum, and fit and look as good as designer flares I have hanging in my wardrobe.

I can barely tell the difference.

RATING: 5

COOL-IN-A-CROP

Fab Daily News UKDark-wash cropped kick flare, £18, TU at Sainsbury’s[/caption]

SOPHIE: These feel very comfortable to wear. However, cropped flares are not my thing.

I am conscious of my ankles and the flare doesn’t kick out on me like they do on Debs. I also found that the fit on the waist was a lot roomier than I thought they would be so they aren’t the best fit compared to others.

Although comfort is key, for me these wouldn’t be my first choice.

RATING: 3

DEBBIE: I really love these jeans. I think they are totally true to size and fit me like a glove.

I am loving the kick flare – I’m into Seventies boho and these give a nod to that. I really like the raw edging on these jeans. It makes them look expensive and chic.

These are definitely on-trend and they are a great, versatile pair of jeans to wear with boots, sandals and trainers.

RATING: 4

MEGA MOMS

Fab Daily News UKBlack mom belted jeans, £25, F&F at Tesco[/caption]

SOPHIE: I am pleasantly surprised by these. Although I would always normally go for denim with lots of stretch, which this pair doesn’t have, they actually do suit me.

The high waist is a game-changer. They aren’t something I’d normally have picked up in the shop but I do like them when they’re on.

The belt is also a definite plus point. It just elevates the look completely.

RATING: 4

DEBBIE: I love any jeans that are high-waisted, so these are a good style for me.

I can tuck my tops in, which is something I often do as a way to hide my belly, but they are also loose at the hips.

My only criticism is that they are a size eight and are quite roomy around my waist. They could be tighter. I wouldn’t say they are true to size but the belt can help with that.
