Carrie Hope Fletcher posted: ‘This is such sad news.’

Danesh came to fame after appearing on Popstars in 2001, thanks to his memorable audition of Britney Spears hit Baby One More Time.

The following year, he took part on the first series of Pop Idol and reached the final of the competition, which was eventually won by Will Young.

Despite not taking the crown, he released his debut single, Colourblind, later that same year – with the track hitting the number one spot.

Danesh also went on to forge a successful stage career, and appeared in Guys And Dolls, Gone With The Wind and Chicago.

His family confirmed his death in a statement earlier today, which read: ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh.

‘Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiners’ office.
