Kanye West fans have been left completely puzzled after seeing that his new Yeezy Gap collection appears to be sold out of ‘rubbish bags’.

It’s definitely a choice.

The rapper, known for being less than conventional when it comes to his fashion and marketing, seems to want fans to have a very specific experience when shopping his collection, which some have described as ‘gentrifying thrifting’.

One shopper posted a photo of the clothes strewn on top of black bags on the shop floor, writing: ‘This is how they are selling Yeezy GAP. The sales associate said Ye got mad when he saw they had it on hangers and this is how he wanted it. They won’t help you find ur size too, you just have to just dig through everything.’

Some were baffled by the choice, with one fan writing: ‘Kanye got people thrifting @ Gap’.

‘The things people let Kanye get away with is world lol,’ another said. ‘Those Gap jackets and Yeezy boots are ugly but cuz it has his name on it, people will sport it.’

‘Kanye’s way of selling Yeezy at GAP. Going to be worse than the Next sale,’ one more lamented.

While I understand the concept, this is the perfect example of people gentrifying a shopping experience. You can’t charge a “luxury” price for a hoodie all while creating a budget experience for the consumer. These hypebeasts & resellers gon’ eat this shit up tho. https://t.co/r8qFUKsRQ2

this homeless chic aesthetic trend is so grim when you think about it even slightly https://t.co/6iwbmzVvxY

Why are the rich obsessed with looking poor. They love to play pretend. Wonder if this is Kanye’s way of tricking people with money to act homeless. Like a performance art piece. https://t.co/Wj030RgeYh

‘Looks like a thrift shop but for rich folks who want to feel poor,’ one more said.

Others pointed out that, since the tweet has gone viral, if it’s a marketing strategy, it’s been pretty successful.

‘Kanye really has GAP going viral rn and probably idiots going just to see if this is true LOL. @kanyewest is one of the smartest humans on the planet right now,’ one said.

Other photos and videos show clothes folded up in the bags, and some have hit back at the claim that staff didn’t help people find their sizes.

More fans are questioning if Kanye’s history with Gap has something to do with the unconventional shopping method, after he mentioned the retailer less than favourably in his song Spaceship, after working part-time there when he was younger.

Either way, people are talking about it.

However, the clothes will still set you back a pretty penny, with Yeezy Gap hoodies currently on sale for £260 in the UK. The cheapest items available to buy are a keychain (£50), a foldable cap (£50) and a tank top (£70).

Ye, who recently came under fire for his comments about Pete Davidson after he dated his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, recently claimed that children and the homeless are the ‘biggest inspiration for design’, with fans wondering if that played into his Yeezy Gap launch.

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Kanye West and Gap for comment.
