A rapper who’s part of the Grammy-nominated group Nappy Roots was kidnapped and shot in the leg during a robbery, it’s been reported.

Earlier this week, Melvin Adams – known by his stage name Fish Scales – was closing Atlantucky Brewing, the Atlanta brewery that he co-owns with fellow group member William Hughes, known as Skinny Deville.

It’s been claimed that Scales was forced into his vehicle by at least two assailants, who are said to have robbed someone else close by.

After being made to drive to the city of Hapeville in Georgia, it’s reported that Scales was shot in the leg as he strived to escape.

According to local news outlet Fox 5 Atlanta, police have said that the incident is isolated, as the authorities continue their investigation.

In an update shared on the Instagram page for Nappy Roots – who received two Grammy nominations in 2003, one of which was for their hit single Po’ Folks – they wrote that Scales ‘is stable and in good spirits after suffering a leg injury’ following his ordeal on Wednesday August 17.

‘Luckily none of our dedicated patrons of Atlantucky were at the scene or harmed during the robbery,’ they said.

‘We are so thankful our brother is safe and on the road to recovery.’

Nappy Roots asked for ‘privacy’ on the matter, as the Atlanta Police Department continue to investigate the incident.

‘Scales also mentioned he is looking forward to getting back to work on music and brewery. Love and Keep It Nappy,’ they added.

In a further update, Nappy Roots shared a picture of Deville with Scales, as the injured rapper posed for the camera while lying down in bed.

‘We again want to thank everyone for the support and prayers for our Brother @nappyscales ….he wanted to let everyone know that he is in good spirits and can’t wait to get back to the music and @atlantucky brewing…THANK YALL AGAIN and KEEP IT NAPPY!!!’ the caption read.
