Just when you think Jay Blade’s The Repair Shop has seen it all, Craig Revel Horwood brought in a completely unexpected item: his life-like chimp.
The Strictly Come Dancing judge joined Dami Judi Dench for a special live session of the BBC One show, on stage at the Edinburgh TV Festival.
Craig was looking to have a life-like chimp from Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Sunset Boulevard, which was given to him as an opening-night present, fixed by the specialist team led by furniture restorer and host Jay.
The show sees customers pay a visit to Jay and his team of experts to have a cherished family heirloom brought back to life, which has lead to many a tearjerking moment, as customers share their touching personal stories, and are reunited with their restored item.
The transformation Jay and the team gave the chimp was described as ‘amazing’ by Craig as he received the new and improved model.
Speaking from the Edinburgh TV Festival stage, he shared: ‘That is amazing. That is actually 100 times better than what it would have looked like in 1992.’

After the team asked if they would get a perfect 10 score, he said they get ‘better than a ten.’
Dame Judi Dench then cradled the chimp, describing him as a ‘beauty’.
Ahead of the reveal, The Repair Shop team played a video clip showing them painstakingly attempting to repair the chimp.
It showed the team having to create new hands for the model through liquid rubber as well as repairing the chimp’s thinning air by giving it hair plugs.

Elsewhere during the celebrity edition of the beloved show, Dame Judi brings a pocket watch she gifted to her late husband, actor Michael Williams, in 1972 – one year after they married – where horologist Steve Fletcher will work his magic.
The James Bond actress recently joined forces with Jay and the team for Comic Relief where she went to restore an old China doll and had to pretend that she fancied the host.
