Gerard means the world to me 🙁 seeing them be confident on stage in a dress made me so insanely happy. The way Gerard has talked about/expressed their gender has always really resonated with me in one way or another and I often times I look to them to affirm my own gender <33— Mikey(/Leo) (@liplockveins) August 24, 2022
In 2013, Gerard, Mikey Way, Frank Iero and Ray Toro broke hearts across the world as they announced My Chemical Romance had come to an end, but made an epic comeback this year after they released their first new music in eight years, The Foundations Of Decay, in May.
For millions of people, the band had helped them through dark, difficult moments, or had allowed them to find a bond with people who would become their life-long friends.

When it comes to gender and identity, Gerard has been open about his own journey and during a previous Reddit AMA, noted: ‘I have always been extremely sensitive to those that have gender identity issues as I feel like I have gone through it as well, if even on a smaller scale. I have always identified a fair amount with the female gender, and began at a certain point in MCR to express this through my look and performance style. So it’s no surprise that all of my inspirations and style influences were pushing gender boundaries. Freddy Mercury, Bowie, Iggy, early glam, T-Rex. Masculinity to me has always made me feel like it wasn’t right for me.’
The band recently thrilled fans by dropping a new song, The Foundations of Decay.
The six-minute offering is the band’s first release since 2014, with the stars never previously confirming whether their reunion would also mark a musical comeback.
MCR previously admitted they were overwhelmed by the fan response to their comeback, which kicked off with a reunion show in Los Angeles.
They said on Instagram: ‘It is truly unbelievable to us the happiness we have experienced over the past two days.

‘From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the warm welcome back. We truly did not expect this. See you soon. Xoxo, MCR.’
This year marks 20 years (feeling old yet?) since the band’s debut album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love – with the group perhaps best known for their iconic concept album Welcome To The Black Parade.
