Olivia Wilde made a rare comment on the end of her relationship with Jason Sudeikis, admitting she wasn’t ‘entirely surprised’ by how she was recently served custody papers.

The Don’t Worry Darling director made headlines around the world when she was handed legal documents while on stage at CinemaCon, midway through a presentation, regarding the two children she shares with the Ted Lasso actor.

She accepted the envelope in front of the crowd before continuing on with her appearance without skipping a beat.

Although the dad-of-two insisted that he was unaware she would be served so publicly, Olivia has now branded the move ‘an attack’.

‘It was my workplace,’ she said in a new interview, recalling the incident without naming her former partner. ‘In any other workplace, it would be seen as an attack. It was really upsetting. It shouldn’t have been able to happen. There was a huge breach in security, which is really scary.

‘The hurdles that you had to jump through to get into that room with several badges, plus special Covid tests that had to be taken days in advance, which gave you wristbands that were necessary to gain access to the event – this was something that required forethought.’

Olivia was praised for carrying on with her presentation while keeping the envelope clutched in her hand, and voiced her upset that distracted from such an important professional milestone.

‘To try to sabotage that was really vicious. But I had a job to do; I’m not easily distracted,’ she continued to Variety. ‘But, you know, sadly, it was not something that was entirely surprising to me. I mean, there’s a reason I left that relationship.

‘The only people who suffered were my kids, because they’ll have to see that, and they shouldn’t ever have to know that happened. For me, it was appalling, but the victims were an 8- and 5-year-old, and that’s really sad. I chose to become an actress; I willingly walked into the spotlight. But it’s not something my children have asked for. And when my kids are dragged into it, it’s deeply painful.’

This marks the first time Olivia has spoken publicly about the incident, but a representative for Jason previously vowed that he had no clue of how it happened.

They said in a statement: ‘Mr Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner.’

The former couple started dating in 2011 and share children Otis and Daisy together – but went their separate ways at the end of 2020, after nine years together.

Following their split, Olivia has since moved on with Harry Styles, while Jason recently split from Keeley Hazell.

Since going their separate ways, the pair have been co-parenting their brood and splitting their time between LA, New York and London – but were locked in a court battle over where their children would officially reside.

The We’re The Millers actor had wanted the children to call New York home rather than returning to LA, which was his ex’s plan – but his petition has since been denied by a judge.
