WWE superstar Ridge Holland wants the Brawling Brutes to get serious and start to build some momentum.

The Yorkshire-born former Rugby League player will be with Butch in Sheamus’ corner as the Irishman battles Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship this weekend at Clash At The Castle in Cardiff, Wales and he thinks it’s time for the trio to make an impression.

He exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘We wanna really kick on now. It’s been kinda stop start, so we wanna show people what we are capable of. I don’t even think we’ve scratched the service with this group.

‘We need to take on a bit of a more serious edge now. We’ve done some comedy stuff, and we really need to show people that we’ve got that mean streak and we’re not here to play games, you know?’

With Sheamus in singles competition chasing the one major prize he’s yet to win in his illustrious WWE career, Ridge insisted there is still plenty of scope for them as a group.

‘I think we’ve got a lot to give and a lot to show. I don’t think there’s a trio like us. The styles, we all mesh very well. So yeah, it would be nice to get our teeth stuck into something and show people what we’re capable of,’ he said.

‘Sheamus is as hungry as ever, he’s established. He could, if he wanted to, just rest on his laurels – he’s accomplished a lot, he’s got a Hall of Fame career, but he’s as hungry as ever.

Butch, the character, he’s thrown everything into it and its working. I think just from a personal standpoint, we just want to get out there and just wrestle, show people what we really are capable of in the ring.’

For Ridge personally, it’ll mean a lot being back at the Principality Stadium for the since time since watching the Challenge Cup Final in 2003, when his beloved Bradford Bulls beat Leeds Rhinos.

‘I hate using the term full circle because it’s kind of cheesy, but it is really. especially when I’ve jumped from one career, to WWE, and found this in both careers,’ he smiled. ‘It’s gonna be quite surreal, I’m gonna have to take a moment and take it all in really.’

Heading into a huge few days for WWE fans in the UK, Ridge is hoping to honour the legacy of SummerSlam 1992 – the last time the company held a major stadium show over here, with British Bulldog versus Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart in the main event – and look to the future.

‘It’s a big thing, it’s the first time in 30 years we’ve had a marquee pay per view in the United Kingdom,’ he said. ‘The little sunset flip into the roll-up for the finish for Bulldog was awesome, a real good hometown feel for him.

‘Everyone was behind him and I hope that’s the same for the guys that are from the UK on the show in Cardiff.’

WWE Clash At The Castle comes to the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday 3rd September. For tickets visit: https://www.ticketmaster.co.uk/wweclash. Tune in on BT Sport 2 or the WWE Network.
