The Chase viewers saw contestant Dan bag an incredible £80,000 after managing to outsmart Jenny Ryan in the final round of the ITV quiz show.

Tonight’s players didn’t get off to the best start, as chaser Jenny brought her absolute A-Game to the panel.

Annabelle, Toby and Sarah were all knocked out in quick succession despite fairly promising cash builders, leaving final contestant Dan all on his own.

After managing to get £5,000 in his cash builder, he decided to take the plunge after being offered £80,000 by The Vixen.

He replied: ‘What have I got to lose? I’m going for the £80,000.’

Dan sailed through the head-to-head, and in the Final Chase, got 17 steps ahead of The Chaser.

He managed to make history in the final round by taking the win against Jenny, after several successful pushbacks.

It looked like Jenny was just about to get the win in the nick of time, but with just seconds remaining, she got the last answer incorrect.

After being asked which former president Israel’s main airport was named after, Dan was able to push Jenny back again when it counted most, telling host Bradley Walsh the answer was Ben Gurion.

As the klaxon sounded, the trio were left in shock as Bradley asked him what he’d be looking to spend his money on.

What a win, congratulations Dan. @jenlion @BradleyWalsh #TheChase

Fantastic Dan won 80k. Great when ordinary people win big. Would annoy me if the auctioneer got through. The show should stay true it it’s purpose and only have contestants who don’t earn or inherited lots of money.#TheChase

#TheChase never rooted for someone more in my life tbh

Can’t believe Dan on #thechase got some really simple questions wrong like Buffalo wings but knew some obscure ballet move and some random Brazilian author and a heap of other hard answers! What a great episode though! So happy for him, 80k all to himself!

Jenny was extremely complimentary after Dan’s win (Picture ITV)

Dan replied: ‘I think I’ll be spending a little bit longer in New Zealand than initially planned!’

Jenny was full of admiration for the winner too, telling him: ‘Sensational. Dan deserves every penny of that, that was a sensational performance.’
