Changing Rooms fans were in complete disbelief when design guru Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen took inspiration from the kitchen for a bedroom transformation.

The cult DIY show was rebooted by Channel 4 in 2021 after a 17-year break, having originally ran from 1996 until 2004.

Much like its predecessor, which was first presented by Carol Smillie, the revival has raised eyebrows with its eclectic transformations and unorthodox approach to home improvement.

In the iconic show’s latest episode on Wednesday, design guru Laurence, renowned for his flamboyant approach to renovations, used an unusual ingredient for a statement gong.

The 57-year-old took inspiration from Japan for the revamp of the tired boudoir and set to work creating a massive golden gong.

But this being Changing Rooms, Laurence and his team decided to make the wall hanging from scratch, using MDF wood and Artex.

While these materials are commonplace in the world of DIY, things took an unexpected turn when Laurence whipped out some dried pasta to stick on the commanding wall piece.

That was one of the most amusing episodes of #ChangingRooms in a while! The Japenese inspired 10 year old bedroom with a gong made of pasta, not ok!!

Speaking to one of the show’s guests Milena, he said: ‘I know you’re going: ‘I can’t believe he’s sticking pasta into Artex on MDF and apparently it’s going to end up as an oriental gong.

‘It will. It will. You trust me.’

Shooting back, Milena quips: ‘It’s very “primary school art project”.’
