‘We’ll See What Happens’ – Collin Morikawa in Pursuit of Consistency at RBC Heritage 2021

Collin Morikawa entered the 2021 RBC Heritage on the back of an 18th place tie at the 2021 Masters. Morikawa teed off at 1:07 PM from the first tee and was tied for third place after a solid finish to Round 1 at Harbour Town Golf Links. 

Morikawa began his journey at the 2021 RBC Heritage by shooting 6-under 65 in Round 1. It was not the best of displays on Thursday, but this score earned Morikawa a solid place on the leaderboard. 

Morikawa made consecutive birdies on the par-3 seventh and the par-4 eighth to give himself a boost heading into the back nine. It did work, as the 24-year-old made three birdies on the back nine to improve his final Round 1 score to -6. 

“I think overall it was probably one of the best rounds I’ve played all year. It’s surprising to say I’ve had some fueler rounds out there, but from tee to green and even on the putting, I didn’t make many mistakes and got away with a little heavy shot on 18 and was able to capitalize on some birdies,” Morikawa told the reporters.

Morikawa did not enjoy his outing at the Augusta National the last week. While the California native achieved his career-best finish at the Masters, he would’ve hoped for a better finish than the 18th position. However, the tournament did put things into a different perspective ahead of the 2021 RBC Heritage.  

Collin Morikawa is just taking part in his second RBC Heritage tournament. After finishing 64th on his debut last year, the four-time PGA tour winner has certainly gained massive strides with an impressive Round 1 performance.

“Yeah, I think it gets things started, puts a lot of confidence in my game. I feel like my game is trending in the right direction. Just got to be a little more consistent. Three more days of the same thing, we’ll see what happens,” Morikawa mentioned about contending for the title. 

Right now, Collin Morikawa is just three strokes behind the leader Cameron Smith. A lot can happen in the remaining three rounds and the World No. 4 is ready to face the challenges at Harbour Town.
