We Leg have apologised to fans for missing a couple of gigs on their world tour, citing ‘mental and physical health’ concerns.

The British indie band’s single Chaise Longue viral earlier this year, winning praise from the likes of Dave Grohl, with their debut album later reaching number one in the UK charts.

On the back of the Isle of Wight duo’s soaring success, band members Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chamber have embarked on a massive world tour, performing across continents such as Europe and North America.

They had been scheduled to play Abiquiú, New Mexico and the Westword Music Showcase in Denver, Colorado on September 9 and 10 respectively but pulled out of the shows.

On Twitter, the band explained why they canceled the gigs and explained they needed to reset after their ‘busy touring schedules.’

They wrote: ‘Hey everyone! just wanted to say sorry for missing you Denver and New Mexico. And no it wasn’t because of covid! truth is that it all got a bit on top of us and we just couldn’t quite manage to get back on that plane.

‘It’s been an amazing year playing our music all over the world but our busy touring schedule finally got the better of us this time. I just want you guys to know that it wasn’t an easy decision at all and I’m sorry I didn’t post anything about it sooner.

‘Our mental and physical health are such easy things to overlook when everything is so exciting and so busy, you barely have a moment to check in with yourself. Anyway after many big ugly cries and lots of good sleep, we’re back and ready to rumble.’

Wet Leg added the rest means they will play Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Life is Beautiful festival, New York and Sea Hear Now festival as planned.

Fans rallied around the pair to show their support, with one writing: ‘Important thing is that all the members of the band and your supporting crew look after themselves. Get plenty of rest and don’t overdo it. The fans will understand.’

Another penned: ‘Don’t worry, take care of yourselves pls :3 i hope everything gets better.’

‘Take it easy guys…we need you!’ a Twitter account wrote.

Wet Leg’s first self-titled album is in the running for the Mercury Prize, with the results postponed following news of the Queen’s death.

The pair’s song Angelica was also included in former president Barack Obama’s annual summer playlist, alongside singers such as  Beyonce (Break My Soul), Harry Styles (Music For A Sushi Restaurant), Nina Simone (Do I Move You?).
