Cardi B surprised students and staff at her old school by paying them a visit and generously donating $100,000 (£86,000).

The rapper returned to her elementary school, I.S. 232 in Brooklyn’s Morris Heights neighbourhood.

She surprised the students and pledged to make the hefty donation, calling for more after-school programmes, including some dedicated to music.

Donning a red mini dress, Cardi, 29, also shared some wisdom with the kids.

The mum-of-two pointed out how important her teachers had been, saying: ‘A lot of the teachers were really tough on me because they saw something in me.

‘I was like a bad kid, but I was very special to a lot of these teachers and I still got them in my heart.’

New York City Department of Education schools chancellor David Banks spoke out on Cardi’s donation, saying: ‘We are thrilled to welcome Cardi B back home to IS 232 in the Bronx, and we are so grateful for her generous contribution to her alma mater.

‘Cardi B’s commitment of $100K for the arts will help the school’s kids soar to their highest heights.’

It comes days after Cardi visited another school in Queens, speaking about her upbringing for a Community Capacity Development event.

She told the kids there: ‘When you turn 18, you have to make decisions, whether you like it or not.

‘After high school, no matter what anybody tells you, you have to make a decision. Whether you go to college – because a lot of teachers will tell you, “You go to college, you can pick any classes” but what they don’t tell you is it’s on your dime.’

She went on to tell the kids to learn about building their credit, and to combine being ‘street smart’ and ‘book smart’ by paying attention in school.
