Holly Willoughby has expressed how relieved she was to see Meghan Markle and the Duchess of Cambridge standing by their husbands’ sides at Westminster Hall.

On Tuesday, members of the royal family took part in a procession as Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin was transported from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, where it will lie in state until her funeral on Monday.

The Queen’s children – King Charles III, the Princess Royal and Princes Andrew and Edward – walked alongside one another, with Princes William and Harry and the late monarch’s eldest grandson, Peter Phillips, behind them.

The Princess of Wales, the Queen Consort, the Duchess of Sussex and the Countess of Wessex followed in a cortege, before Harry, Meghan, William and Kate were all captured entering the historic Parliamentary building, as the couples stood side by side.

Sophie took her place in front of Meghan and Kate, standing by her husband, with Kate and William behind, and Harry and Meghan behind them.

Reflecting on the ’emotional and touching moment’, seeing them together by each other’s side, Holly shared on This Morning: ‘You’ve got the re-joining of the wives, they sort of broke rank, you’ve got Camilla and Catherine and Sophie and Meghan, and they all stood beside their husbands.

‘You sort of thought, okay good, that sigh of relief felt at that point.’

This Morning guest Marverine Cole added: ‘Absolutely, you feel, as everyone does, that compassion and humanity because your loved ones are being next to you, in this moment where the world’s eyes are on you and there is a feeling of not wanting to show emotion, but Harry did, and it was completely natural.’

She continued, speaking about Harry’s emotional moment as he wiped away a tear: ‘I applaud him for that, he was the truest of himself in that moment, you do absolutely let go, and a lot of people are feeling this pain almost viscerally about the Queen’s death because they are recalling their own loss, a loss of a loved one, a loss of a close friend.’

This comes after backlash Meghan and Harry have faced for holding hands inside Westminster Hall, although the likes of Channel 5 presenter Dan Walker have jumped into defend the couple.

‘Why the **** do #HarryandMegan have to hold hands when leaving Westminster Hall?’ one critic asked, a question that Channel 5 news presenter Dan had a very simple answer to.

‘No snarky comments about Zara and Mike Tindall holding hands too I note!!’ someone else noted.
