IT turns out that our trainers have a little-known feature that many of us aren’t aware of and have never used before.

What’s more, because of this secret feature, it appears that many of us have been tying our shoes up all wrong.

You may or may not have noticed it before, but the majority of running trainers will have extra shoelace holes that are known as eyelets. 

These eyelets are slightly to the side of the normal shoelace holes and have a very specific purpose. 

According to trainer experts, you can thread your shoelaces through these holes to give yourself extra ankle support.

Therefore, this “heel lock” stops your foot from sliding around as you’re walking.

First, take the left lace and run it through the top left eyelet—from the outside in—and pass it through until it forms a small loop.

Then take the right lace and run it through the top right eyelet—from the outside in—and pass it through until it forms a small loop.

Following this, take the left lace and run it across the tongue and through the loop on the right. Take the right lace and run it across the tongue and through the loop on the left.
