It won’t release any time soon, but it’s said that EA will formally reveal The Sims 5 at next month’s livestream.

EA recently said that it will be making The Sims 4 free-to-play starting in October, while also promising to release more DLC expansions for the foreseeable future.

With it doubling down on Sims 4 support, this naturally raises questions about when EA plans on bringing out The Sims 5. While that question will likely remain unanswered for the time being, one insider has claimed that EA could announce the game itself next month.

EA has a livestream planned for October 18, the same day The Sims 4 goes free-to-play, which promises ‘big The Sims announcements.’ It’s believed that one of those announcements is for The Sims 5.

It was never formally confirmed, but EA CEO Andrew Wilson did imply back in 2020 that a new entry was on the cards and would be influenced by The Sims Online multiplayer game.

Considering EA’s commitment to The Sims 4, however, you probably shouldn’t expect The Sims 5 to release any time soon.

Speaking on Game Mess Mornings, insider Jeff Grubb expressed confidence that the game will be revealed during October’s livestream but suggested that it’s very early in development.

‘At this thing next month, they almost certainly will announce [The Sims 5] then,’ he said.

‘Expect to hear about The Sims 5 soon, do not expect to be playing it soon. The game is still a very long ways off, apparently.’

The Behind The Sims livestream is scheduled to air at 6pm BST on both YouTube and Twitch, and EA hasn’t given any hints as to what else could be shown.

Currently, The Sims 4 is still only available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, so a port to the newer PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles wouldn’t be too unexpected.

As a reminder, anyone who already bought The Sims 4 will receive a free Desert Luxe Kit, which they can obtain simply by logging into the game before October 17.
