Taylor Swift has given fans a hilarious update on the status of her cat Meredith – as she celebrated the rerecorded version of her album Fearless becoming the ‘top release of 2021 so far’.

The singer’s followers had been left wondering why her pet had not been featuring in her recent social media posts – but now Taylor has put their minds at ease.

Taking to Instagram, the 31-year-old shared a video to explain that Meredith is simply not a fan of the camera.

Cuddling Benjamin, another of her pet cats, she began: ‘We’ve been hearing some rumours on the internet recently, I mean they’re not about you Benj, but they’re about your sister.’

Later showcasing screenshots of tweets from fans asking ‘where is Meredith’, the clip then reads: ‘The truth is, Meredith just HATES having her picture taken.’

Photos of Meredith looking visibly annoyed then appear on screen, with captions including ‘strong discomfort’, ‘intense dislike’, ‘please stop’, and ‘go away’.

Taylor then says: ‘So yeah, there it is, there you have it, that’s the explanation, she’s just a really private little cat.

‘She likes her business kept to herself, she doesn’t like a camera shoved in her face and who could blame her?

‘So yeah, there’s your update on Meredith.’

Afterwards, we then see Meredith wondering around Taylor’s house, as her owner begins to quip her on the ‘recent allegations that you are a missing cat’.

The video the ends with a funny snap of the cat lying in a bowl, looking slightly bemused.

Alongside the video, Taylor later spoke of the success of the new version of her second studio album Fearless – which has become her seventh number one album in the UK.

Taylor has since set a record for the fastest accumulation of three number one albums, according to the Official Charts Company.

The previous record was held by The Beatles for 54 years, with the iconic band achieving a trio of number one records in 364 days between 1965 and 1968, with Help!, Rubber Soul and Revolver.

She wrote: ‘WELL WELL WELL you all really went out and left my greatest expectations in shambles this week.

‘Word on the street is you made Fearless (my version) the biggest country album first week of the last 6 years and the top release of 2021 so far. Honestly??? How?? Did I get this lucky????’

She added: ‘I wanted to say thank you to you so today I will be addressing a very pressing issues,’ alongside a series of cat emoji.

Meanwhile, Meredith was last seen on Taylor’s social media well over a year ago, when the Cardigan hitmaker shared a snap of her feline relaxing in a cat bed last March.

‘For Meredith, self quarantining is a way of life,’ she captioned the post. ‘Be like Meredith.’
