2021 NFL Draft: Analyst Tips THIS Quarterback as Unlikely First-Round Pick

The 2021 NFL Draft is scheduled to be held between April 29 – May 1, 2021. This year’s event will be held in Ohio, Cleveland. Quarterbacks are the theme of the draft this summer. Big-name starlets up for grabs include Trevor Lawrence, Trey Lance, Justin Fields, Mac Jones, and Zach Wilson. But one player who is flying under the radar is Stanford’s Davis Mills.

He attended Greater Atlanta Christian School in Georgia as a kid. He was regarded as a top-level recruit after impressing in his junior year. But a nasty knee injury ruined his chances of making it big and joining a top-level college football program. However, almost 4 years later, Mills has a chance of proving his naysayers wrong as we approach the 2021 NFL Draft.

Davis Mills could emerge as surprise 6th choice quarterback

Popular NFL analyst Peter Schrager was the latest to talk up Davis Mills on a recent segment of Good Morning Football.

He said, “ I’m going to give you a sixth quarterback who might come off the board a little earlier than you think, Stanford’s Davis Mills…He’s about a quick release. The PFF guys did the numbers, said he’s got the quickest release of any quarterback in this draft, meaning he doesn’t take all that time you have to sit in the pocket…It’s timing. He’s gonna throw the route to the slot receiver. If he has to, he’s going to go outside as well.”

“He also has great vision and he can manipulate defenses. Davis Mills was the number one high school quarterback recruit in the country in 2017. Who was number two? Tua Tagovailoa. Davis Mills was the guy. David Shaw landed him at Stanford and everyone was going nuts saying ‘Oh my god, Stanford got the number one’. Unfortunately, injuries sidetracked his career, suffered a knee injury his final season in high school and then his first year at college at Stanford. another knee injury. So two major knee injuries before the age of 21, but put up great numbers last year,” Schrager said on the show.

22-year old Davis Mills threw for 1,508 passing yards, 7 passing TDs, and 3 interceptions in 5 games last season. He showed great composure throughout the season making clutch plays for Stanford.

Mills has made a full recovery from previous knee injuries. He is reportedly being monitored by the likes of the Chicago Bears, Washington Football Team, and reigning Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
