World-famous DJ and producer Diplo- real name Thomas Wesley Pentz, is primed to make his professional boxing debut. Triller has become synonymous with putting on showcase fights, and Diplo is arguably one of the biggest entrants into this category.
It’s unclear who Diplo will compete against, however, there’s a good chance that he announces it on April 17. Triller Fight Club: Elevating the game
Diplo’s inclusion in the ranks of Triller Fight Club is sure to do wonders for the organization going forward. Despite not having any combat sports experience, Diplo will be afforded an opportunity to make a huge splash. Triller’s Boxing Officer Peter Kahn chimed in on Diplo’s impact as a musician and went in on match-making for him.
“Diplo has been training in boxing. He wants to fight. He has a worldwide fan base. It’s massive. It spans 100-plus countries, at least. And he wants to fight. I won’t do anything that’s not competitive, but competitive is a relative term. I’m not looking for someone that’s going to come in and overpower him, but I’m also not looking for someone that’s going to come in and underwhelm. I have to assess his skillset.”
Fans will most certainly show up in droves to watch Diplo lace on the gloves and potentially go against another celebrity. It’s clear that the culture surrounding fight sports is undergoing a change and Triller is leading the charge. The event on Saturday night will be extremely telling as to the manner in which the company goes about massive events.
With Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr, and Evander Holyfield all making their comebacks, it’s interesting to see a new influx of headliners in the boxing world. Details surrounding Diplo’s debut are sketchy, however, fans will be on the lookout for any and all updates.
