House of the Dragon is about to undergo several major changes, with almost a dozen new names set to join the main cast of the Game of Thrones prequel very soon.

The most high-profile departures are that of Milly Alcock, who played a young Rhaenyra Targaryen, and Emily Carey, who played a young Alicent Hightower.

The duo are being replaced by Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke respectively, as the new pair take over the main roles in the series.

The reason for this huge change to the cast is because House of the Dragon is about to undergo a 10-year time-jump.

By the end of the most recent episode, which saw another bloody Westeros wedding, we’re roughly five years on from the events of the series premiere.

As if that wasn’t enough, we’re about to jump another decade into the future… so here’s everything you need to know about the significant changes ahead.

Rhaenyra marries Laenor, but rumours spread

At the end of episode five, Rhaenyra and Laenor Velaryon (Theo Nate) were wed – with their week of celebration cut short after Ser Criston (Fabien Frankel) pummelled Joffrey Lonmouth to death.

In the 10 years that pass between episode five and episode six, Rhaenyra gives birth to two sons: Jaecerys (‘Jace’ for short) and Lucerys (‘Luke’).

There’s one problem, however: it seems that the two boys are clearly not Laenor’s.

There’s a notable lack of resemblance (Picture: HBO)

In episode five, Rhaenyra and Laenor agreed that their marriage would remain political. In the decade since, Rhaenyra has allegedly been enjoying the company of Ser Harwin Strong (Ryan Corr).

The son of the Hand of the King, Lyonel (Gavin Spokes), Ser Harwin bumped into Rhaenyra while she enjoyed a night in King’s Landing in episode three, before sharing a dance with her at her wedding before chaos ensued.

All of her children resemble Ser Harwin, and secrets never stay secret for long in Westeros.

Luke and Jake both feature heavily in the trailer for episode 6. Watch it again (above) and look out for two boys, around age 9 or 10, with brown hair.

Daemon gets married and, shockingly, stays married

Hey! He’s managed not to kill this one! Good job, Daemon. (Picture: HBO)

Believe it or not, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) gets married and manages to go an entire decade without killing his new wife.

We recently saw him cruelly dispatch his former spouse Rhea Royce (Rachel Redford), before Lady Laena Velaryon (Savannah Steyn) caught his eye at Rhaenyra and Laenor’s wedding festivities.

Laena, who will be played by Nanna Blondell from now on, has two daughters with Daemon: Rhaena and Baela. The family have since left Westeros (yep, Daemon has left King’s Landing again) and now live in Pentos.

Pentos is a rich city across the Narrow Sea. It’s where we met Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) at the very beginning of Game of Thrones, and it’s where Tyrion Lannister fled to at the start of the original show’s fifth season.

Viserys and Alicent have another son

King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) might be ageing rapidly and riddled with infections, but he and Alicent still have a third child in the years that pass after Rhaenyra’s wedding to Laenor. After Aegon and Helaena were born, Alicent gave birth to Aemond.

Aemond will be played by Leo Ashton and features heavily in the latest trailer for episode 6. He was born shortly after Rhaenyra and Laenor’s wedding, which would make him 9 or 10 – the same age as Luke and Jace.

A little older than them both is Aegon Targaryen (Ty Tennant). We saw Aegon for the first time as an infant in episode three, when Viserys went on a royal hunt. He has now grown into a teenager that’s faster and stronger than his cousins and siblings.

As for Viserys himself, he does manage to survive the decade after his daughter’s wedding.

However, his hair recedes severely and the infection in his arm appears to have worsened significantly, teasing his eventual demise.

House of the Dragon returns on Monday at 2am on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
