Jake Paul vs Ben Askren Weigh-Ins Highlights: Paul Gets Giant Robot on Stage, Askren Gets the Last Laugh, and More

The Jake Paul vs Ben Askren bout is finally upon us. The two will face off as the main event of a unique card on Saturday. And fans can now look forward to seeing them face each other as both fighters successfully made weight. So let’s look back on the weigh-in and see what happened.

After a series of verbal battles throughout the build-up, many expected fireworks when the two got together for the weigh-in. However, both fighters were relatively subdued when compared to their previous meeting.

Jake Paul and Ben Askren weigh-in result

Between the two fighters, Askren was first on the scales. The 19-2 MMA fighter came in at 191 lbs, which is 20 pounds more than what he fought at in his last MMA fight. Jake Paul came in at 190.5 lbs, which was similar to his last bout against Nate Robinson.

However, other aspects may have caught the attention of the fans. Jake Paul revealed his real motivation for the fight as he said, “This one, this one means a lot for me. This one’s for shadow.” 

Thus, Jake Paul is dedicating the bout to his late bodyguard.

The 2-0 boxer also surprised his fans by walking out with a huge robot as his mascot. He later explained the decision by pointing out the NFL teams and other sports teams walk out with mascots, and thus, he wanted to.

Moreover, Ben Askren couldn’t help himself from having one last dig at ‘The Problem Child’. At the end of the weigh-in, ‘Funky’ went back to the mic and said, “I knew because people told me, but I didn’t realize until I got so close… That hairline’s just moving back really quickly.” Thus, Askren had the last laugh in terms of the trash-talk.

Weigh-in results of the other fights

The biggest surprise of the weigh-in came on one of the undercard fights. Former UFC heavyweight champion will face former champion, Steve Cunningham, in a 6-round heavyweight bout. However, Cunningham looked in impeccable shape and much lighter than Mir who was 70 pounds heavier than ‘USS’.

Frank Mir 276 lbs. vs. Steve Cunningham 206 lbs.

William Jackson 144 lbs. vs. Quinton Randall 149 lbs.
