Fans are already playing FIFA 23 ahead of its official launch and you can too by either pre-ordering or joining EA Play.
Not withstanding that weird glitch from last month, fans can now start playing FIFA 23 ahead of its official launch this Friday, September 30 thanks to the early access period.
It kicked off last night and is available across PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC. EA has also recently gone into more detail on how PC owners can start playing FIFA 23 early, even with a standard EA Play subscription.
So, if you’re slightly late to the party but can’t wait until Friday for the game’s full launch, here’s a quick summation of how to join the early access period.
How to join FIFA 23 early access on PlayStation and Xbox
Playing the game early on consoles is incredibly simple, since all you need to do is pre-order the Ultimate Edition.
It is the priciest version available, costing £89.99, but it comes with some extra bonus items for the Ultimate Team mode plus dual entitlement. So, a PlayStation pre-order gets you FIFA 23 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, while an Xbox pre-order comes with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S versions.
In case you’re wondering, early access isn’t available for the Nintendo Switch version. This is because it’s a Legacy Edition, making it the exact same game as FIFA 22 albeit with an updated list of clubs and kits.
How to join FIFA 23 early access on PC
While FIFA 23 is available via both Steam and the Epic Games Store, the only way for PC players to get early access is by being subscribed to EA Play.
There are two subscription tiers, with the basic £3.99 a month tier providing you with a 10-hour trial. The trial does provide access to the Ultimate Team and Careers modes to give you a head start, and any progress made is carried over to the full game.
If you want more than 10 hours’ worth, though, you’ll need to subscribe to EA Play Pro, which is £14.99 a month. This nets you unlimited access during the early access period, plus all the pre-order benefits from the console’s Ultimate Edition.

What new features does FIFA 23 have?
We’ve already run down everything that’s new for FIFA 23, such as HyperMotion2 Technology and the addition of women’s club teams.
However, people are already spotting a few other features that EA hasn’t mentioned yet. For instance, there’s an option to turn off critical commentary during matches.
This doesn’t disable commentary itself, but it does mean the commentators won’t make fun of you if you find yourself playing poorly.
Although, according to Eurogamer, this apparently doesn’t completely work, so maybe that’s something EA is still tweaking ahead of the game’s launch.
FIFA 23 launches for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Stadia on September 30.
