Eamonn Holmes has revealed he is undergoing surgery on his back after suffering with chronic pain for the past 18 months.

The presenter, 62, will be taking a break from presenting the Breakfast show on GB News alongside Isabel Webster as he recovers from the surgery, which he hopes will allow him to live life without constant pain.

Eamonn has been open with fans about his health struggles and had been getting steroid injections in his spine after surgeons initially decided against operating on his back after a trapped sciatic nerve left him struggling to walk.

However, doctors have now agreed to operate with Eamonn telling the Express: ‘I pray that God will guide my surgeon’s hand this week and help me get back to the man I used to be.

‘The thing is I might have a way out. So many others will never have that hope and that can be the most crushing pain of all.

‘I am hoping that this will be a Back to the Future procedure and that I go back to the way I was 18 months ago.’

Eamonn added that he had spoken out for the first time publicly on social media during an ‘agonising night’ and was overwhelmed with the response from others who suffer with chronic pain.

He added: ‘I wanted to see if anyone else understood and to see if anyone else was going through what I was. The responses went off the scale.’

The presenter, who is married to Ruth Langsford, admitted it made him ‘sad’ that so many people are experiencing a similar situation to his own, and how lonely the experience of chronic pain can be.

Eamonn added that viewers won’t see him on GB News for a ‘wee while’ and the length of time he will be off-screen will be dependent on how long his recovery takes.

He had joined the channel last year after co-hosting this morning alongside Ruth for 15 years.

The TV star had also opened up about his mobility issues while reporting on the Queen’s funeral, sharing a photo of himself in a golf cart as he told his followers: ‘Getting around and organising the Media area at Buckingham Palace is a massive operation. especially if like me u r having mobility issues. So really appreciated the ride. #TheQueen #thequeensfuneral.’
