Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield are still planning on appearing at the National Television Awards 2022 despite being fiercely criticised for ‘jumping the queue’ for the Queen’s coffin, Metro.co.uk understands.

The presenters had gone to pay their respects to Britain’s longest-serving Monarch at Westminster Hall on September 16.

But mourners were angered when the pair appeared to skip the queue while some had waited for hours with the line stretching back to five miles at one point.

ITV strenuously denied that Holly and Phil had done anything wrong, explaining they were there of members of the press and respected the rules in place for the media.

As the saga rumbles on, the 41-year-old and Phillip will still attend the NTAs, which is being presented by comedian Joel Dommett.

The starry event will be held at London’s Wembley Arena on its rescheduled date of Thursday 13th October, having been postponed due to the Queen’s death.

Neither Holly nor the 60-year-old are up for a gong, having been snubbed prior to queue gate, but colleague Alison Hammond is up for the TV Presenter award.

Meanwhile, shows nominated in various categories voted by the general public rather than industry bigwigs include Clarkson’s Farm, Peaky Blinders and The Great British Bake Off.

Addressing the backlash over queue gate on an earlier episode of This Morning, Holly said: ‘The rules were that we would be quickly escorted around the edges to a platform at the back. In contrast, those paying their respects walked along a carpeted area beside the coffin and were given time to pause.

‘None of the journalists and broadcasters there took anyone’s place in the queue and no one filed past the Queen.’

She continued: ‘We, of course, respected those rules, however, we realise that it may have looked like something else and therefore totally understand the reaction. Please know that we would never jump a queue.’

The controversial segment, which featured footage of Holly and Phil visiting the Queen as she lay-in-state, however, hardly received any Ofcom complaints.

Despite a petition calling for Holly and Phil to be axed attracting more than 72,000 signatures, just 55 complaints were filed to the media watchdog.

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Holly, Phil, ITV and the NTAs for comment.
