Grand Designs is partial to a building nightmare and Wednesday night’s episode is no different, and this time it’s an awkwardly shaped roof that’s causing issues.

This week, presenter Kevin McCloud follows couple Mike and Sarah, who set out to build a 21st-century version of a historic Derbyshire longhouse.

Enormous, corrugated, and with a highly complex roof shape, it was never going to be an easy build, and unsurprisingly, they soon face problems.

While their rectangular wall panels are installed in no time at all, the couple is met with a disaster when their ‘very unusual shaped’ roof fails to fit into the space.

In a preview clip shared exclusively with Metro.co.uk, it appears Mike jinxes the roof installation before it even begins.

Speaking to the pair as he observes the building site, Kevin says: ‘It’s quite epic up there.’

‘It’s going to be absolutely epic,’ Mike agrees. ‘Nine metres up… putting the panels on is going to be a challenge.’

And lo-and-behold, the challenges appear, with Kevin explaining: ‘It’s a very wet autumn by the time the installer Wayne and his team start tackling the complex roof.

And not even kicking it into place helps (Picture: Channel 4)

Hopefully, the builders will be able to rectify the issue (Picture: Channel 4)

‘Because each panel is weirdly angled, some aren’t fitting as they should… and no amount of kicking or hammering can change the shape of the panels.’

Will Wayne and his team be able to find a solution to get the roof fitted? Only time will tell…

Sadly though, it looks like the roof won’t be the only issue plaguing Mike and Sarah’s build as the synopsis teases that problems of a personal nature also hit.

Grand Designs airs tonight at 9pm on Channel 4.
