Strictly Come Dancing star Tony Adams might find himself distracted ahead of tonight’s live show, as it appears he’s been banned from watching the high-stakes North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Considering the former England captain is one of Arsenal’s most legendary players, this news might have been tough for him to take.

On Saturday’s BBC Breakfast, sports presenter Mike Bushell – who was partnered with Katya Jones on Strictly in 2019 – revealed that he’d spoken to her earlier in the day about her upcoming second dance with Tony.

Mike acknowledged that Tony is going to be ‘rather fidgety and twitchy’ ahead of today’s Arsenal vs Spurs match, considering the historic rivalry between the two teams and the fact that they’re both fighting for the top spot in the Premier League, which is currently held by the Gunners.

Speaking of Tony, Mike said: ‘He’s on the Strictly dancefloor, Arsenal legend.’

He then added: ‘I’ve spoken to Katya this morning – he’s not allowed to watch it at lunchtime, she says, because they’re doing the dress rehearsal. So he’s got to concentrate on his swivels for the Charleston to try and stay in the competition.’

So it sounds like Tony will have to balance thinking about his steps and keeping in time with the music… all the while wondering how on earth his side is faring in the head-to-head.

Last week, the former professional footballer repped Arsenal with his first dance of the season, performing a Tango and making his grand entrance on a huge gold cannon, the symbol of the team.

The official Twitter account for Arsenal reshared a clip of Tony and Katya’s routine, writing: ‘We love it, @TonyAdams.’

Tonight, the football manager and his professional dance partner will be taking on the Charleston to My Old Man’s A Dustman by Foster & Allen.

While the pair placed at the bottom of the leaderboard last week with a score of 15 out of a possible 40, this score will be added to the points they’re awarded by the judges tonight.

Then, the total score of each of the competitors combined with a public vote will determine which two couples land in the bottom two, before the judges decide who will be the first duo to be sent home.

Strictly Come Dancing returns tonight at 6.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
