Strictly Come Dancing star Kym Marsh has revealed she was a bundle of nerves before the hit BBC programme kicked off.
The Coronation Street actor is paired with professional dancer Graziano Di Prima in the long-running series, which also features celebrities including Helen Skelton and Will Mellor.
Dancing the Jive to Yes by Merry Clayton, judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas awarded the pair 23 points out of a maximum of 40 for their first spin on the ballroom floor.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk ahead of the second week, where they will perform the Viennese Waltz to The Corrs’ track Runaway, Kym revealed she had a ‘full-on meltdown’ before the juggernaut show’s opening episode.
Revealing the celebrities all swap tips and chat in a newly created Strictly WhatsApp group, Kym said: ‘I’d said to everyone, and even on the WhatsApp group, that I’ll be fine as long as I don’t have to go first. Anything but first.’
But when Kym learned her worst fears had come true, and she would be the first to dance live, she said she had a ‘full-on meltdown with Graziano needing to ‘calm her down.’
She added: ‘Although it was funny because I think I was more nervous in the dress rehearsal than I was on the actual day. It was really weird.’

Graziano admitted: ‘It’s such a big thing, Strictly. But not just that we opened the show – that is something we’ll never forget. You’re not opening the show that night, you’re opening the season.’
Kym also said she had struggled with this week’s rehearsal and had nearly ‘thrown up’ on her unsuspecting dance partner due to the combination of a medical condition and the intense routine.

She explained: ‘The dance we’re doing as just got so much spinning in it and I have visual vertigo. I had an inner ear problem five years ago and it left me with visual vertigo, so for me spinning is really awful.
‘On the first day of practice, Graziano nearly got thrown up on. I didn’t say anything or tell you. But there was one moment…

‘Turning for me and spinning and all that kind of thing is really is just a really difficult thing to do because of my condition. It takes me so long to orientate myself again and to become aware of what’s going on.
‘There’s still a part of the dance where I’m really dizzy and I’m gonna go and do a spin on my own. But let’s see what happens.’
Strictly Come Dancing returns tonight at 6.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
