House of the Dragon and The Rings of Power might both be winning viewers over as they near the end of their first seasons, but Dan Walker isn’t on board.

The former BBC presenter, who now works for Channel 5, took to Twitter to give his thoughts on the rival fantasy series’, which have broken numerous viewing records.

He asked his followers: ‘Is anyone else finding both House of the Dragon and The Rings Of Power a little underwhelming? Is it the writing? I’m not sure but neither are floating my boat.’

He continued: ‘I do like the Elrond & Durin storyline (in The Rings of Power) but half the time I think the orcs are more likeable than the elves and humans.’

Both series have been celebrated for airing their respective ‘best episode yet’ in the past week, but some of Dan’s followers agreed with him.

One follower commented: ‘I was wondering when people would break the lines on this one. [House of the Dragon] is boring in general. [There’s] no humour at all, which the original had in abundance.’

They continued: ‘[The] leading actors aren’t as good, and [there are] too many time jumps in just 6 episodes. Shame. The original is a masterpiece.’

Another commenter said: ‘Finally, someone thinking the same thing as me. I have stuck with HOTD but I’m increasingly of the opinion it doesn’t hold a candle to GOT.’

Speaking about The Rings of Power, a user said: ‘Rings of Power I was most excited for but they’ve messed the lore up by including Galadriel and changing the story a bit.’

In defence of the Amazon Studios show, another person commented: ‘Really enjoying Rings of Power as a whole – in particular Elrond, Durin and his wife, the Harfoots, the gorgeous set pieces and the many nods to the Simarillion!’

After some viewers complained that certain scenes in the latest episode of House of the Dragon were too dark, other fans of the show on Twitter seemed to agree.

‘Hubby and I are watching HOTD and can’t decide whether it’s supposed to be so dimly lit or whether the TV has broke.’

However, the most recent episode of House of the Dragon was praised for a daring end which changed a crucial part of the novel upon which the series is based.

Laenor Velaryon (John MacMillan) faked his own death with some help from Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and escaped to live a happier life.
