Dolly Parton leads tributes for ‘sister’ Loretta Lynn after country music legend dies aged 90-Alicia Adejobi-Entertainment – Metro

Dolly Parton has expressed her sorrow following the death of her close friend Loretta Lynn, who has died at the age of 90. 

Lynn’s family announced on Tuesday that the Coal Miner’s Daughter hitmaker died at her home in Hurricane Hills, Tennessee, but did not disclose a cause of death. 

The musician became a country music icon with her songs often following the themes of sex, infildelity and birth control at a time when it was taboo for female country singers in the 1960s and 1970s. 

Tributes have poured in for Lynn following the news, with fellow country legend Parton writing in an Instagram post: ‘So sorry to hear about my sister, friend Loretta.

‘We’ve been like sisters all the years we’ve been in Nashville and she was a wonderful human being, wonderful talent, had millions of fans and I’m one of them.

‘I miss her dearly as we all will. May she rest in peace.’

Parton’s sister and fellow singer Stella Parton also remembered Lynn, and wrote: ‘My heart is broken with the news of my sweet friend Loretta Lynn passing.

‘I will remember all the sweet visits and laughs we shared. RIP sweet Angel.’ 

Achy Breaky Heart singer Billy Ray Cyrus shared a photo of the cover of Lynn’s 2004 album Van Lear Rose which she signed for him, and said: ‘Celebrating the life of Loretta Lynn. One of my highest honors was being joined by her and George Jones on a song I wrote called “Country Music Has The Blues”.

‘She handed me this wonderful gift on that day. #lorettalynn.’ 

Blake Shelton said it was ‘terrible news’ and sent his love and support to Lynn’s family, while acclaimed songwriter Carole King hailed Lynn as ‘an inspiration’. 

Marie Osmond said ‘goodbye to another dear friend’, adding: ‘She was the reason that I fell in love with #countrymusic. When I was 13, she said to me, “Never stop singing!”’ 

Alongside a photo of them together, Osmond concluded: ‘Heaven definitely received a true angel in this “Honky Tonk Girl”! #RIP #icon #lorettalynn.’ 

Lynn’s family announced her in a statement which read: ‘Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at home at her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills.’ 

As well as Coal Miner’s Daughter, some of Lynn’s biggest hits included You Ain’t Woman Enough and The Pill.
