Channel 4 series Make Me Prime Minister is under way.

The series follows 12 contestants who are aiming to please judges Alastair Campbell and Baroness Warsi by fighting it out in a series of Apprentice-style challenges.

The series’ similarities with The Apprentice have not gone unnoticed.

One of the 12 contestants is Jackie Weaver from Shropshire. Before the show, she said that she had voted Conservative all her life but recently switched her allegiances to the Lib Dems.

She called for greater unity between the leading parties, saying: ‘There’s no reason for us to have the House of Commons designed by Big Brother to be as adversarial as it possibly could be.’

Before the show, people were excited to see Jackie Weaver compete against the other contestants. But who is she?

Who is Jackie Weaver?

Jackie is a 63-year-old chief officer from Shropshire, who currently resides in Cheshire.

Asked what she would do were she leader of the country, she told Channel 4 that she would ‘make decisions that people don’t like’, and said she believes that the country should ‘take a less emotional look at the NHS and see it for what it is: a business’.

Jackie Weaver shot to fame after a video of a Handforth Parish Council meeting went viral on YouTube as a result of several hilarious moments.

The pandemic and subsequent lockdown forced us all onto Zoom to have work meetings or attend family quizzes (remember those?), and Handforth Parish Council were no different.

It meant that we were treated to comedy gold as a group of well-meaning but frustrated parish councillors shouted at each other while attempting to resolve local matters.

The most famous moment of all came when Brian, a member of the council, told Jackie Weaver that she had ‘no authority here’, and that she was therefore not allowed to remove people from the online chat.

Jackie simply ignored Brian and removed him from the meeting, which then caused all hell to break loose. A voice can be heard describing the ‘appalling behaviour’ that then takes place.

Since then, Jackie Weaver’s name has remained in the spotlight. She was booked to make several media appearances shortly after the clip went viral and now she’s bagged a slot on Make Me Prime Minister.

Who knows what’ll happen if she wins.

Watch Make Me Prime Minister on Channel 4 and All 4.
