WWE has hired former Marvel writer and Disney producer Rob Fee as Director of Longterm Creative.

While he exact duties are yet to be defined, Fee has experience writing for the likes of Daredevil and Spider-Man, as well as his work on Disney XD series Player Select.

If that wasn’t enough reason for fans to get excited about a signing that appears to be a sign of the company’s creative intent in terms of continuity, there’s also a couple of Bray Wyatt links making the timing very interesting.

As well as having Bray – whose real name is Windham Rotunda – as a guest at his wedding earlier this year, it’s been reported by Fightful Select that Fee also pitched a horror movie about The Fiend before the star’s shock release last summer.

This all comes amid the ongoing mystery of the White Rabbit, with plenty of cryptic clues hidden in QR codes, which the former Marvel writer has reportedly been involved in.

While there is plenty of speculation about what Fee’s hiring could mean for Bray and his rumoured return, there could also be a bigger implication.

Back in February during the company’s fourth quarter earnings call, then-president – and now co-CEO – Nick Khan hinted at WWE’s plans to expand the way they used their intellectual property.

Given WWE’s vast history of larger than life characters, Khan pointed to the way WWE could look to embrace other creative mediums, both scripted and unscripted, as ways of telling stories.

He said at the time: ‘Our deal with Peacock also marked a strategic pivot for our company to fully focus on our wholly owned intellectual property and a completely unique content that Vince and WWE have created for the past 35-plus years.

‘It’s evident that the marketplace puts considerable value on our IP, which has allowed us to drive more value for existing partnerships and enter into a number of new categories.

‘We currently have over a dozen scripted and unscripted projects sold based on our IP. Look for an announcement on each and every one of those in the not-too-distant future. Those are with existing content partners in the U.S. in addition to new buyers, networks and streamers.’

Given Fee’s background, it certainly seems like this could be a big step in that direction.
