Married At First Sight UK star Thomas Hartley has publicly apologised to Sophie Brown after an explosive row sparked fierce criticism from fans, including death threats.

During Wednesday night’s episode, Thomas shared details of his homestay with his husband Adrian Sanderson while sat with the brides, revealing that his parents have a lot of love for his partner but don’t believe they have a romantic spark.

Voicing her opinion on his relationship, Sophie commented to the group: ‘Probably because you are friends and not in a romantic relationship.’

This prompted Thomas to fire back: ‘Yeah, but you wouldn’t know that because you’ve only been here two weeks.’

He then grew increasingly irate, telling Sophie: ‘Don’t come for me.

‘I don’t care about 90% of the people here. I only care about Chanita and Jen and you [Kasia]. I don’t give a f*ck about yous. Yous mean nothing to me.’

Thomas’s behaviour was widely criticised online, with many condemning his actions.

‘Thomas, that is bang out of order going for Sophie like that,’ wrote one, while another said: ‘I love Thomas but I’m not sure Sophie deserved that.’

Thomas has since apologised to Sophie and explained that he was dealing with personal issues at the time and didn’t want to be filming.

He also revealed he was sent death threats following the episode.

‘By the time we’d sat down to film that night I had already left three times,’ Thomas said in a video posted on Instagram. ‘I’d left three times. I didn’t want to be there. I’d wanted to go home.’

He continued: ‘I own the Sophie thing but I was heightened, I took it too far, I’ve apologised, we’re in a good place now.

‘The language that I used is coarse and vile and I don’t like it, and that’s me owning my sh*t. I don’t care what anyone else thinks, that’s what I think.

‘The point being is I did not want to be there at that time. If I had my time again, knowing what I know now, I would just not have gone.’

In a separate post, he wrote on Twitter: ‘I made a mistake and I hold my hands up totally, however sending death threats isn’t warranted.’

Responding to his statement of apology, Sophie said: ‘There was a lot going on that day. I know you were also dealing with things, and we are over it now and I appreciate the apology.’

Never a drama-free episode of MAFS UK, hey?
