NASCAR Racing on Ice! Whelen Euro Car Tackles Snow and an Ice Track in France
Earlier this month, NASCAR visited a dirt surface and raced on the surface after a very long time. However, the sport soon decided to take on a new challenge, snow. Back in late March, NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) organizer Team FJ, visited Val Thorens in France. Along the way, they took a 1225 Kg / 400 Hp EuroNASCAR car to the mountains for a full day of ice testing.
Needless to say, many fans and top drivers were impressed. This was because, the EuroNASCAR car proved to be one of the most versatile race cars. NWES President Jerome Galpin had the honor of piloting the car on the snow. As it turned out, the car handled like a dream on the ice and snow. It seemed right at home, dancing around the twisty Val Thorens track.

Aside from the spectacle, Galpin put the car through its paces on the studded tires. As it turned out, the NWES car was quicker that all the specifically-designed rear wheel drive cars. It even put up a good fight against the all-wheel-drive ice prototype cars’ lap times.

“That was super fun! To be honest we didn’t expect this first test on ice to go so well,” Galpin said. “The EuroNASCAR car has a great balance, so it is very easy to swing around on the ice. It is probably among the most versatile race cars ever built, able to race on every track and every surface, in every condition. The level of performance is also pretty impressive: with only one day of testing, we were able to set one of the fastest times around the track for a rear wheel drive car.”
According to Galpin, the test opened up new opportunities for the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. He insisted that no matter the surface, track or driver, there is a certain character in EuroNASCAR racing, which is addictive.
