Eurovision Song Contest fans have been kept on the edge of their seat waiting to find out which city out of Liverpool and Glasgow will host the singing contest.

But on The One Show on Friday, the competition’s long-running commentator Graham Norton finally put everyone out of their misery.

The TV presenter revealed it would be Liverpool doing the honours, with the event to take place in the Northern city and aired on the BBC on May 13.

The final two cities battling it out were revealed last month following a seven-strong shortlist which also included Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield and Manchester.

Ukrainian entry Kalush Orchestra triumphed at the 2022 competition in Turin, Italy, but the European Broadcasting Union, which produces the annual event, decided the show cannot be safely held in the country following Russia’s invasion.

It was later decided that the UK would host the 67th Eurovision Song Contest as Sam Ryder came second in the competition, making it the ninth time the country has welcomed the iconic event.

Celebrities and fans were quick to react to the announcement that Liverpool would be staging the Eurovision, with Rylan Clark writing on Twitter: ‘CONGRATULATIONS LIVERPOOL!!!!! BRING ON @Eurovision 2023!!!!! #eurovision.’
