Steven Seagal has wished President Vladimir Putin a happy birthday amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The Under Siege actor has been a vocal supporter of the Russian leader, and marked his 70th birthday in a video shared on his Instagram page.

In the clip, shared on his story, the Hollywood star began: ‘So I just realized today is a very important day. Today is President Putin’s birthday.

‘I just think that we are now living in very, very trying times. He is one of the greatest world leaders and one the greatest presidents in the world.

‘And I am really hoping and praying that he gets the support and the love and the respect that he needs.

‘And that all the tribulations that are going on now will be over soon, and we will be living in a world of peace.’

His message is definitely different to how Prague have honored the milestone birthday.

Seagal has a special relationship with Russia and often praises its leader, who this year ordered a full-scale invasion of Ukraine which has devastated the country.

In 2016, the Under Siege actor was made a special envoy of Russia and given an exceptional passport to the country.

He previously hailed Putin as ‘one of the greatest world leaders, if not the greatest world leader, alive today,’ and called his annexation of Crimea ‘reasonable’.

In April, video footage surfaced of Seagal’s own 70th birthday celebrations, in which he described Russian allies as his ‘family’.

Putin is said to be in a secret bunker this week amid the ongoing war – after his troops suffered serious setbacks on the battlefield.

There are now fears that he may resort to using nuclear weapons, with US President Joe Biden warning that he is ‘not joking when he talks about the use of tactical nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons.’

‘We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis,’ he added.

‘I don’t think there is any such a thing as the ability to easily use a tactical weapon and not end up with Armageddon.’
