The National Television Award for best presenter has been awarded to Ant and Dec for the 21st year running.

Ant and Dec have won the award for best presenter at the NTAs for the past 21 years running, with nobody else managing to nab the award since 2001.

The Geordie duo, who present I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, had been tipped to face serious competition from Alison Hammond, however she did not manage to end their two-decade reign.

Others nominated in the category were Graham Norton and Bradley Walsh, who also missed out on a landmark win.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly could not be there in person to collect their award at London’s Wembley Arena after contracting Covid days before the event.

The pair shared a picture of their positive lateral flow tests on Instagram, joking: ‘Sadly, it’s true… We even get ill together.

‘After feeling unwell a few days ago we both tested and we’re positive for Covid…

‘We’re resting up at home and are so sorry we can’t be at the @officialntas… Best of luck everyone… and get well soon to anyone else in the same boat.’

Their award was accepted on their behalf by Stephen Mulhern, who told the crowds: ‘Ant and Dec obviously can’t be here for obvious reasons…’

The audience was heard chanting his name as he brought out a speech from his pocket, joking: ‘They’ve given me some words to say – not doing any of that drivel!’, before tearing it up.

He added: ‘Listen full respect to the guys, 21 years on the trot – come on. But the reality is, this baby is coming home with me.’

Stephen then brought out a pre-etched plaque of his own name to stick over Ant and Dec’s on the award statue, leaving the crowd in stitches.
