Stephen Mulhern has admitted he has no plans on giving Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly their 21st National Television Award trophy, having accepted it on their behalf.

Ant and Dec have won the award for best presenter at the NTAs for the past 21 years running, with nobody else managing to nab the award since 2001.

However, the pair were unable to attend the event in person to collect their award at London’s Wembley Arena, after contracting Covid days before the event.

Instead, Stephen was on hand to accept it for them, and keep it apparently.

Appearing on The One Show today, Stephen replied: ‘Absolutely not,’ when answering if he’d given them their NTA yet.

‘And I’m going to keep it for a bit of time on my shelf,’ he continued, quipping: ‘They’ve got enough to be frank!’

He added, speaking of their win: ‘Phenomenal! And they deserve it as well… unless I of course am nominated.’

When Stephen appeared on stage to collect the award, he hilariously brought out a prepared speech from his pocket and tore it up.

‘They’ve given me some words to say – not doing any of that drivel!’ he said.

He added: ‘Listen full respect to the guys, 21 years on the trot – come on. But the reality is, this baby is coming home with me.’

Stephen then brought out a pre-etched plaque of his own name to stick over Ant and Dec’s on the award statue, leaving the crowd in stitches.
